Rest & Recovery

A common misconception is that growth and improvements in strength occur in the gym. This is simply not true. All growth occurs with the help of rest and recovery which provides the essential nutrients and the time to stimulate repair. This same principle applies to our cognitive powers as well.

Every elite athlete understands this premise. Most everyone will acknowledge the exceptional drive, discipline, mental focus and work ethic of elite professional athletes, but what many people fail to recognize is that the foundation of success for every athlete regardless of their sport is the remarkable advantage they have in understanding the importance of periodization (a fancy word describing optimum work/rest ratios).

An athlete’s entire year is pre-planned and emphasis is placed on the rejuvenating powers of recovery. As you plan your physical exercise program, ask the important question: What is my plan for rest and recovery?
